This screen print features the portrait of a Burmese princess from the cover of Shumawa, a vintage Burmese women’s magazine from the 1940s.

The name Shumawa, in red translates as “never tire of looking.“ The Burmese words, read from the bottom upwards, translate as ‘A magazine of images that you’ll never tire of looking at.’”.  

The original portrait was painted by British artist Sir Gerald Kelly after the princess visited London in 1931. Struck by her beauty and reminded of his own visit to Burma, Kelly persuaded her to sit for him.

We’ve brought this beautiful piece of history back to life as a screen print — celebrating Burmese culture, vintage design and the stories hidden in old magazines.

Any UK orders over £50.00 will qualify for free shipping... so please keep shopping!

Shipping rates for EU are £12.50 per order. And for outside EU the rates are £25.00 per order.
